Landlords – you have nothing to worry about!
If you’re a landlord you might have come across a variety of mixed views on each of the main political party leaders’ plans for the private rented sector and you’re probably left wondering how the future of your private rental will be affected.
Well, we’re here to put your mind to rest and tell you that you’ve got nothing to worry about.
What are the main parties proposing to bring to the table?
While Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn has been campaigning and demonstrating a force to headhunt ‘dodgy landlords’ and take on exploitative landlords, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has remained considerably silent about his political intentions regarding the private rented sector and has focused the Conservatives’ housing policy on increasing house-building and home ownership. The Lib Dems on the hand introduced a bill for the abolition of Section 21 (the form you must submit to your tenant to start the process to end a shorthold tenancy). This was nullified following the dissolution of Parliament once the general election had been agreed for 12 December 2019.
It is evident that all three of the main parties have the property sector on their agendas and are all pledging longer tenancies and to abolish ‘no fault evictions’.
What hasn’t been made clear is that the new legislation the main political parties have outlined plans for, is already in existence but isn’t currently being applied correctly.
